New iPhone SKUs Show Up

New SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit), or “models” of the iPhone just showed up in a configuration file (”code” as some would say…). That would tip that multiple hardware refresh of the iPhone and the iPod Touch are on the way. That was to be expected as the next iPhone “cycle” should start in June. Here are the new device IDs:


* iPhone2,1 - 0×1294
* iProd0,1 - 0×1295
* iPod2,2 - 0×1296
* iPhone3,1 - 0×1297
* iFPGA - 0×1298
* iPod3,1 - 0×1299?

Expect that kind of knowledge to pop in future updates. Now, we just wonder what will be the extent of the hardware changes. Some mention a better camera (5MP), while others dream about an AMOLED display. As always, nothing is assured before it’s official… What do you want in the next iPhone hardware?

iPhone 3.0 Jailbreak Is Ready

The iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that the jailbreak* for the iPhone 3.0 firmware is already ready to go. Of course, the team will probably wait until version 3.0 is available (”this summer”) to all before releasing their jailbreak.
The team is issuing a warning to YellowSnow users (their iPhone unlock software) to stay away from the firmware 3.0 considering YellowSnow is not ready yet and could create an irreversible change.

*If you don’t know what “jailbreak”

means: normally, only iPhone apps that have been approved by Apple can work on the iPhone. After the jailbreak, any iPhone app will run, approved or not.
